Jo Anne Elliott-Pugh (Artist)
Over the last 10 years, my work has encompassed, graphite works, charcoal, clay sculpting, pastels, acrylics and oils. Similarly, the size of my works has increased from 8 x 10 to 18 x 24, to 36 x 36 and growing. My artistic taste typically centers on the satisfaction I obtain from the medium. The richer the medium whether pastels, oils, etc., the more I am involved and the more fulfilling the piece.
The subject matter for my first exhibit was a series of portraits in oils, pastels and charcoal mediums. There were some still life pictures of places dear to my heart. But overall, the story was geared towards conveying different emotions when viewing different mediums and the application of them.
I value art work that is imaginative and thought-provoking. I plan to produce oversized paintings, with lots of detail or interesting shapes, controversial themes, realistic, timely innovational trend-setting techniques to develop “New Art”. I will use mixed media, oils, watercolor, heavily applied paint, detail laden, large art pieces painted on many surfaces including but not limited to canvas, wood, interior or exterior walls.
I aspire to produce works of art that motivate thought in the artist and the viewer. To paint a piece that is hard to look away from, controversial and/or inspirational.
My intentions are to motivate younger artists, inspire a new generation of artists through teaching, or painting.
The inspiration of my art, will be designed to challenge traditional thinking and to develop new innovative techniques.
