Currently, I am inspired by the human form, bold contrasts, and the crispness of lines. I do not yet know how to define myself as an artist and I try to paint or draw when I need to convey a memory or an emotion. Currently I'm exploring different mediums to incorporate texture in my paintings to heighten contrast.
My name is Alyssa but everyone usually drops the vowels and calls me Lyss. Prior to Pittsburgh, I grew up in southern California and spent summers in New Mexico with family. The contrast in my environments- from the rural and rustic beauty of the desert in New Mexico to the bold and industrial qualities of the city in Pittsburgh- is where I draw my inspiration from. I originally dove into art thanks to my grandpa who became a professional artist after serving as a Marine in the Vietnam War. He inspired me to use art to express myself instead of bottling up emotions and inspiration.
