I seek to generate interesting questions, for both myself and the viewer, by exploring the boundaries of various media (oil paint, graphite, wood, found object, mixed media). I'm encouraged to play within the spaces allowed (and not) by the implicit rules of the materials. The results are sometimes diverse, in that the spectrum of my work has ranged from abstract 2-dimensional work (drawings on paper, oil on panel and canvas) to functional furniture pieces (both design and execution in wood and metal). Most recently I have expanded my materials pallete beyond paints and wood, into fabric and papers (stitching, collage) and metal (steel and aluminum welding and assemblage). My common interest among all of the materials and processes which I explore is that of "joinery". How does fabric join to fabric, fabric to wood, wood to steel, etc. These explorations have led me to learn about sewing, riveting, welding, soldering, mortising, dovetailing, gluing, etc. The byproducts of my directed play, are the works that I produce for display and sale.
