I have this romantic quest, in the mind of mine; searching for all the things I cannot
understand. Exploring the space beyond me, and the limenality across to the other.
Investigating the gap within our perceptions, the metaphysical, and the intangible depth
of human existence. To embody things I can’t see, to be in a body that takes up space,
but only the space it exists in at any given moment. Living as a compromise of being, to
live within the physical but maybe as a search for everything beyond it, constantly
battling its limitations. Perception, the body, and the mind; they are all both the dividing
factors between two humans, yet the bridge that while casting oneself into the other you
can reach a transcendence of limitations.
I am driven to understand, fascinated by philosophical ideas that revolve around
existence, epistemology, ontology, and the constraints of being. The concepts that
reflect on the human relationship to physical space. The relationship between
individuals, and an individual to one’s own self. Simultaneously intrigued by the safety of
boundaries, confinements of being, and the desire for transcendence, for the lines that
blur, for spaces that overlap.
My process is an ongoing evolution of grappling with grasping the ungraspable, the
feelings and senses that are intangible and inaccessible to us. Sculptural form and
installations to give form to concepts, and simultaneously grappling with cutting down
excess materiality to the remains of purer form of expression, first hand grappling with
constrictions of body and space. Grappling with the impossibility of overlapping space of
one and the other, or the ideas beyond the limit of my own body and mind, the body as a
medium of immediate and raw encapsulation of the human experience.
Rivka Einav (Cyprys) is an artist currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born and raised in London, UK, where she graduated from The University of The Arts, Chelsea, with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art.
Working predominantly with performance, installation and, Cyprys seeks to explore the conditions of the human experience, ideas that revolve around existence, and redefines and subverts the usage of arbitrary items. Cyprys’s approach to fine art is highly conceptual. She is intrigued by physiological condition and philosophical state of being that align or conflict with inhibited space. There are often underlying themes of inaccessibility, limited human perception, and physical and intangible space. Cyprys stated, “ I am grappling with the impossibility of overlapping space of one and the other, the body as a medium of immediate and raw encapsulation of the human experience. I want to explore the interchangeability of emotions and the uncanny. The metaphorical and the poetic, the abstract within physical space, the freedom that coexists with constrictions, and the beauty within it.”
