Betsy’s love of colorful fabrics, fibers, and threads stems back to her childhood. She had the opportunity of watching and learning from her mother who patiently taught her to use a needle and thread and a sewing machine…… needless to say, she hasn’t stopped.
Through the years Betsy has designed and created clothing, wedding gowns, art dolls, fabric sculptures, and art quilts. Her greatest passion, however, is creating thread paintings from digital photos that seem to speak to her. While researching, taking numerous classes, and learning all she could about the technique, she began to add her own ideas. As layers of colorful threads are laid down the piece becomes a realistic painting on fabric. She describes the process as daily therapy.
Betsy has exhibited her work at various galleries in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Florida and has been accepted into numerous juried art shows throughout the country. Her art can also be found at Gallery 29 in Sharon, PA and the Bottlebrush Gallery in Harmony, PA. She has completed numerous private and business pieces on commission.
Betsy is a member of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh. She and her husband, Dave, reside in northwestern Pennsylvania.
